Welcome to Spindrift Reefs! We're a company that is passionate about preserving our fragile ecosystem.  Our office is based in Hong Kong but our work is mainly carried out in the Philippines at present, as it is one of the key countries in the Coral Triangle region with a wealth of beautiful coral reefs. We have seen first hand the damage that can be done by thoughtless and reckless human actions. Our first project, the Underwater Chocolate Hills, is our initiative to promote sustainable eco tourism. We hope to spread our enthusiasm for responsible diving practices and protecting the corals for many dive generations to come.

6 month test

06-19-2011
Hi everyone,

Thanks very much from the Spindrift Reefs team for taking the time to look our site over, and for our returning visitors, welcome back! We thought it high time that we post something on the blog to give an idea of where we stand in the project.

First of all, we are still waiting to submerge the structures. The seabed area (near Kalipayan Beach) where we intend to create the Underwater Chocolate Hills, has been completely surveyed and approved by the local government, and all the heavy equipment we require has finally arrived. Just a matter of time now!

Secondly, we have seen some very encouraging signs of growth on two of the test rods that we placed underwater at 30 meters depth. The rods have been in place for roughly 6 months now, and even without EMA (Electro Mineral Accretion) there seems to be a lot of life clinging to them already. We hope that this apparent speed of growth will help the success of the Underwater Chocolate Hills structures as well.

Attached are some pictures of the rods.

Please do follow us on facebook, if you don't already, for up to date information...

Welcome to our website!

Thanks for stopping by to have a look at our site and find out all about us.  We just went 'live' today and so this is a big step for everyone involved with the company!  We'll be blogging on here with all the latest news about our project and uploading new photos for you all to check out.  Please do check back when you can and see how everything is progressing.

For our first project, the Underwater Chocolate Hills, we've now built all the structures that you can see in the gallery on our project page.  We'll be starting to put them down in the water in the next couple of weeks and we'll be sure to keep you all updated on how that's going!

For now, have a look around the site and learn a bit more about us and what we do.  We'd also be happy to hear from you about anything to do with our work or if you'd like to know more.  You can get in touch with us using the contact page or feel free to leave comments on here.  You can also follow us on Twitter or join us on Facebook by using the links at the bottom of the page.
